THANE: The anti-extortion cell of the Thane police arrested a 30-year-old man for possessing an illegal weapon on Monday.
The accused, Farook Salim Khan, was arrested while he was trying to sell the country-made revolver, a police official said. The police received a tip-off that Farook, a resident of Karjat, had possessed an illegal revolver. He was going to meet someone near the Thane Municipal Transport (TMT) bus-stop to crack the deal.

The police laid a trap in the area. When Farook reached the spot he found something suspicious. He saw some police officials coming towards his direction and tried to escape. But the police managed to catch him outside Nisarg bar and restaurant near Nitin Company service road.
"We have arrested the accused and have seized a revolver and three live cartridges. Investigations are on in the case. Farook has been sent to police custody till July 15," said DCP Vikram Deshmane. Farooq has been booked under Section 325 of the arms act and Section 37(1) 135 of the Bombay Police Act.
